What is a free invoice generator?
A free invoice generator lets you enter business and client details, add line items, and produce a professional invoice you can preview and download as a PDF. It is useful when you need a clear document quickly without setting up full accounting software.
How this generator works
- Enter business and client details: Add your company name, address, and contact details, plus the client's billing information.
- Add invoice metadata: Set the invoice number, issue date, due date, and optional payment terms or notes.
- Add line items: Each line has a description, quantity, and unit price. Line amount is quantity multiplied by unit price.
- Calculate totals: Subtotal is the sum of all line amounts. Tax is subtotal multiplied by your tax rate when one is set. Total is subtotal plus tax.
- Preview and download PDF: The live preview updates as you type. When ready, download a PDF formatted for sending to your client.
Worked example
You bill 10 hours of consulting at £85 per hour (£850) and a £500 project fee. Subtotal is £1,350. With 20% tax, tax is £270 and the invoice total is £1,620.
